Abhyangam Treatment Book Now

Abhyangam is the Sanskrit word for oil massage in the ayurvedic system. It is prescribed as a daily routine in the ancient ayurvedic texts. It involves applying vegetable oils infused with herbal preparations on the body or particular parts of the body in a specific style to obtain the desired results.

Why Abhyangam ?:
Human body is characterized by 3 basic doshas namely 'Vata', 'Pitta'and 'Kapha'. The basic tenet of Ayurveda is that their careful balance is essential to good health.

Vata is the dosha that influences other doshas in the body. The imbalance in Vata is due to constant exposure to pollutants such as dust and chemicals as also due to bad living habits. This leads to problems such as insomnia (disturbed sleep), body aches, stress, dry skin, brittle and lusterless hair, wrinkling of skin, creaking joints, general debility. One of the easiest ways to bring 'Vata' under control is by regular 'Abhyangam' or oil massage. Hence, just like the life and strength of an earthen pot or a wheel is increased with regular lubrication, our body tissues get strengthened by regular application of oil.

When abhyangam?
Abhyangam is recommended daily for best results or on alternate days or at least once a week, preferably on an empty stomach or 3 hours after having eaten a meal.

Benefits of Abhyangam
  • Rejuvenates the whole body
  • Beautifies the skin and delays ageing.
  • Reduces stress and induces soundsleep
